Jamison (Jamie) Powell was named the Interim Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Hilbert College on August 1, 2018.
Powell, who steps into his first head coaching position, will take charge of the Hawks volleyball team as they prepare for their 2018 season beginning August 21.
“Jamie is prepared to begin his journey on the volleyball sidelines and we are excited to see a young and dynamic coach develop at the Division III level,” said interim athletics director Kara Rehbaum. “He gained valuable experience running the men’s club team and assisting in all aspects with the women’s volleyball team at Fredonia and we feel he is ready to take the next step on his own.”
Since 2015, Powell served as a student assistant coach under Geoff Braun, a 19-year coaching legend at SUNY Fredonia. Powell helped with on-campus recruiting, created practice plans and worked with players one-on-one. He scouted opponents and assisted with pre-game strategies. At the same time, Powell served as the Fredonia Men’s Volleyball Club team’s president/player coach managing the budget, organizing practices, scheduling tournaments and handing all travel arrangements.
“I am extremely grateful to join the Hilbert family,” said coach Powell. “The chance to take charge of this team and lead these amazing young ladies at this time in unbelievably exciting. I hope to bring success and a competitive experience to the court.”
Powell earned an applied music degree with a concentration in trumpet from Fredonia in 2018.
