The men’s volleyball team secured the award as the Team of the Week. The Hawks swept both AMCC opponents setting the program’s best overall record since it became a varsity sport in 2001. With the 3-0 fast-track over Altoona and the 3-1 win over D’Youville, Hilbert ended the 2014 season at 9-25. Almost 50% (17 of the 36) of their games were against opponents who are (or were at one point) in the Division III Top 15 poll. Adam Weaver produced his typical week averaging 6.43 k/s (.352) and 25.25 points per match. But everyone else came up big which determined the sweep. Korey Schwab finished with 23 kills, 14 digs and 4 service aces; Andrew Duncan added 16 kills and 2 service aces while Adam Wolbert padded 6 kills and 6 assisted blocks up front. Adam Zientek posted 8 kills, 12 digs, 1 solo block and 3 assisted blocks. The two fill-in setters for the injured Adam Heftka, David Mellerski and Ryan Ratajczak proved their worth. Mellerski performed well with 83 assists, 17 digs and 3 kills and Ryan Ratajczak had 21 digs while assisting 7 times. Besides the season best record, the Hawks not only beat D’Youville for the first time in the program’s history, they did it twice.
