O’Shei continues to provide leadership and poise behind the plate as the Hawks starting catcher. He helped Hilbert to a 4-3 record, earning at least one hit in six games, as the baseball team closed out their spring training at the Cal Ripkin Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC.
The Hamburg, NY/Gannon transfer finished the week with a .409 batting average, a .536 on base percentage, hit his first home run of the season, scored 10 runs, knocked in two RBIs and stole five bases. He earned a .968 fielding percentage on defense with one error in 31 chances.
O’Shei poked his homer in the nightcap against Eastern Nazarene when he went 2-for-3 and scored three runs in Hilbert’s final game of the trip, a 10-4 victory over Geneva.
The senior leadoff hitter also threw out both runners who attempted to steal on him while behind the plate.
Hilbert sandwiched sweeps against John Jay (6-5, 8 inn; 9-4) and Geneva (3-1; 10-4) around losses to Moravian (14-4), and Eastern Nazarene (6-5; 6-2) last week.
The Hawks returned from spring training with a 6-5 record having also played The College of Staten Island (10-23; 9-13) and The College of Saint Elizabeth (12-8; 18-10) February 29 and March 1.
