Winfred Nelson did a little bit of everything during the baseball team’s spring break and for his efforts, the senior earned his first Hawk of the Week.
Nelson led the Hawks with a .438 batting average and made two appearances on the mound, went 1-1 with a 2.77 era in Hilbert’s games played down in Fort Pierce, Fla.
The right-handed senior earned a 7-4 win over Geneva going 7 innings and finished with two strikeouts, one earned run and five hits. He closed the week against Delaware Valley, where the Hawks fell 5-1, in six innings of work, with a pair of strikeouts and three earned runs. Nelson went 13 innings without giving up a walk.
The Pine Valley native earned seven hits off 16 at-bats, scored five runs and earned an RBI. In the final double header of the week, Nelson went 4-for-6 with the RBI and scored two runs in Hilbert split decision against Delaware Valley March 10.
