Masia Phillips earned his very first Hawk of the Week honor and has become a dependable player for the men’s basketball team this winter.
The sophomore guard has emerged into a leader on the team as his scoring efforts from the floor and foul line carried the Hawks in a 2-1 week.
Phillips totaled 46 points, 16 rebounds, six assists and three steals in Hilbert’s 79-66 non-conference victory over Nazareth, a 77-64 defeat to Penn State Behrend and a 62-57 win against Mt. Aloysius.
The 6-1 combo guard slashed his way to 19 points and carried the Hawks to a come-from behind win against Nazareth where he went 11-13 from the foul line (19 points). Against the undefeated and league-leaders Penn State Behrend, Phillips, who notched 20 points, strung together a 12-point run which gave Hilbert a spark; he closed the week with an all-around effort scoring seven points, grabbing six rebounds and dishing four assists in the win.
