Senior Ryan Bonafede’s steady play in the opening weekend of the baseball team’s 2017 season has been rewarded with his first career Hawk of the Week honor.
The 5-11 catcher lifted Hilbert to a 2-1 record behind strong hitting and smart defensive play. Bonafede went 4 for 8, hit a pair of doubles and one triple, while knocking in 5 RBIs. He scored three runs as part of the Hawks’ offensive explosion where they posted 39 runs in three games. Bonafede was credited with a pick-off at first base, and threw a runner down at second trying to steal.
The Lancaster native had a successful day against Bridgewater State March 5. In Hilbert’s 10-7 loss against the Bears, he went 2 for 3, hit a double and a triple. He followed that effort up in the night cap (when the Hawks won 9-5) going 2 for 3, and added another double while knocking in four runs.
