Jalen Smith continues to shine from behind the line. The junior sharp-shooter earned his fifth Hawk of the Week honor this season as the men’s basketball team remains in a battle for a play-off spot.
Smith broke the 1,000-point plateau last week while he scored 51 points, dished for 10 assists, grabbed 5 rebounds and swiped four steals as the Hawks went 2-0 with victories over Alfred State and Franciscan to improve to 12-9, 8-6 AMCC.
The 6-1 guard from Batavia was sitting at 982 points prior to the tip against Alfred State. Smith knocked down 18 points before half time to reach 1,000 points in his 3-year career.
He capped off the night by sinking the game winning, 3-point bucket with two seconds left in overtime for the non-conference victory. He drained 29 points and was credited with four assists and three steals.
Smith then tossed in 22 points, grabbed four rebounds and finished with six helpers in the Hawks 91-73 league win against Franciscan.
For the week, Smith averaged 34 minutes of action, shot 55.9 percent from the floor (19-34), 50 percent from 3-point land (10-20) and 75% from the foul line (3-4).
