Jalen Smith’s accuracy behind the 3-point line kept the Hawks alive this week helping him to earn his fourth Hawk of the Week honor this season.
Smith was very efficient from the floor hitting 20 of 35 shots (57%) and 10 of 18 (56%) beyond the arc. He collected 53 points, was perfect from the foul line and earned seven assists and three steals for the men’s basketball team who knocked off the top team, Medaille, before dropped a weekend game at La Roche.
The 6-1 shooting guard posted 30 points, his career high, in the Hawks’ 90-86 Buffalo Cup victory over the Mavericks. He connected on 11 of 19 shots (6-12) hitting big shots down the stretch to lift the Hawks. Over the weekend, Smith personally carried Hilbert with 18 points in the first seven minutes of action. Hilbert held a 22-17 lead after his 16 points out scored La Roche who posted 10 in that same run.
Currently Smith averages 33.6 minutes, 19.8 points (45% FG/41% 3FG/ 79.6% FT) and is second on the team with 3.2 assists per game. The Batavia native is 2nd in the AMCC in scoring, 6th in 3-point and 5th in free throw accuracy. The men’s team (10-9) sits in 6th place with a 7-6 AMCC record.
