Freshman Michael Podgorny opened his rookie campaign helping his men’s volleyball team to a 2-1 record and earned his first Hawk of the Week honor.

The Grand Island native led the Hilbert men’s volleyball team in almost every statistical category in their weekend quad match at Wittenberg University.  He averaged 3.56 points per set collecting 2.67 kills, 0.78 service aces and 0.22 blocks in the nine sets played.

The 6-2 Outside Hitter knocked down nine kills (.667) and added three aces against Adrian College on Friday, the 22nd.  The following day, Hilbert repeated with another 3-set victory over Olivet and Podgorny tossed down eight kills matching eight digs and a pair of block assists. 

He stayed strong at the net in the final 3-set loss to Wittenberg with seven kills, another eight digs and for the second set in a row, a pair of service aces.
